Laboratory Accreditation

New York Spine and Wellness Center was the first lab in Syracuse to earn their Electrodiagnostic (EDX) Laboratory Accreditation in 2015. The laboratories director Dr. Raymond J. Alcuri and Dr. Riná C. Davis have received and maintained an accreditation of Exemplary Status, the highest designation of Electrodiagnostic (EDX) Laboratory Accreditation given by the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM).

EDX Laboratory Accreditation acknowledges laboratories for maintaining the highest level of quality, performance, and integrity based on AANEM’s professional standards.

These standards evaluate diagnostic services and clinical operations essential to providing quality patient care, such as:

  • Clinical staff qualifications and continuing education
  • Physical facilities
  • EDX equipment
  • Protocols for performing EDX studies
  • Patient reports
  • Policies for ensuring the health and safety of every patient

Laboratory Accreditation with Exemplary Status is the highest level of accreditation an EDX laboratory can achieve through the AANEM.

In order to achieve this status, physicians performing studies in the laboratory must meet the following criteria:

  • The laboratory director must be board certified in Electrodiagnostic Medicine
  • Completion of a neurology or physical medicine and rehabilitation residency program
  • Completion of a minimum of 3 months of training in EDX medicine as part of a residency or fellowship program

Both Dr. Riná C. Davis and Dr. Raymond J. Alcuri are physiatrists with many years of experience in EMG and nerve conduction testing. Dr. Alcuri is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. Dr. Davis is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Neuromuscular Medicine as well as board certified in Pain Medicine.

Electrodiagnostic testing is routinely used to help diagnose the reason(s) why a patient is experiencing numbness, weakness and /or pain.
